we have had this happen in the past as well.....anyone remember the flu that happened during a convention that knocked out some people and pushed yet another update back????
Seems that our few live team members who do the designing/testing etc dont get things done well before the date that it is supposed to go live. (doing that would only be logical....heaven only knows what acts of God that could happen to put you behind schedule, though anet has used quite a few of them in the past few years----).
I would agree they should have had it done early JIC!

When has a game dev team ever gotten anything done early? That job doesn't attract the "hard working" types. Sure, they're motivated and passionate, but they're not good at deadlines.....or setting them. I mean, Linsey puts in nights where she works like 12 hours straight (according to Facebook), but half of that is her playing Dawn of Discovery and screwing around with the other people in the office (also according to Facebook).

Hell, half the time she just works from home. Again, not exactly the tough-it-out kind of people.

Ah I forgot the new working ethics....go to work and expect to be paid for your mere presence there (sorry I dont share that and neither does my husband who also works in the computer field---he sometimes works 16 hour days and weekends..and yes he is actually WORKING then, I have watched it).....which explains quite a lot now.

I think the competency of this dev team speaks for itself... it appears this was supposed to be ready for anniversary... without anything happening for this year anniversary to was pretty lame and it was disappointing that nothing new at all came during that week... They should of started the marketing campaign after the actual product was finished.. anticipation is turning into impatience...

Since then its hard to stay logged on for more than 20 mins... I hope the quality of this update matches the time allocated to it because anyone can type dialog.

last year's (4th) anniversary was handled by the same live team, and iirc was generally well received (there were many critics as well).

remember this statement?:
Quote:
content updates every 3 to 4 months
lets review the (notable) content updates the live team has brought us thus far:
2008 november - storybooks
2009 april - menagerie, zqs, storage
2010 january - pvp "love" (aka introduce crappy codex that no one will play and shit on the small but dedicated hb/ta playerbase)
2010 april - nothing? (unless you count microtransaction costumes as 'content')

after the 2009 anniversary there was a long stretch of nothing. i remember the forming of the test krewe was being used as an excuse to why not a whole lot of content was being released. many people speculated, "just wait until the test krewe is finalized and starts working, then we'll get better/more content"... well test krewe has been around for a while now, and i'm still waiting for something to happen?

One can quibble about whether or not an update is "notable", but I really think you've left out some worthy updates.

2008 December - major skill update and addition of new Wintersday content for EotN. (I would call these new quests as notable as anything in the 4th anniversary update.)
2009 June - major skill update, including the major buff to rits (again, pretty notable, considering how many new rit characters and builds have been created since then) and significant changes to hero AI.
2009 August - major skill update and change to pets (less damage taken, more damage dealt), notable for making beast mastery more viable along with significant buffs to dervish and ele skills.
2009 October - new PvP henchies, major revisions to PvE henchie skill bars, revisions to henchie/hero/NPC AI, addition of new Halloween quest chain, and changes to UW. Plus the introduction of the Codex Arena. If that isn't a notable bunch of updates, I don't know what is.
2010 April - you conveniently omitted mention of all the changes related to the War in Kryta, the trial of Zinn, and the Gwen/Thackeray dialogs and scavenger hunt. While these events have not developed as quickly as we might like, they are hardly "nothing".

I believe they also said that the entire Guild Wars team consists of like 5 people, and that the Art Team alone for GW2 has nearly 200 (may have been the entire GW2 staff, can't exactly remember).

i don't think you understand the meaning of "content update". skill balances were a part of the monthly updates (turned bimonthly, turned 'when its done'), in other words not content updates. i don't really consider seasonal things like wintersday and halloween quests 'content updates' either because they come and go (i.e. not permanent). also, i did mention the codex arena if you bothered to read. the war in kryta ("obey or dismantle") viral stuff i doubt was handled solely by the live team, and the in-game stuff thus far was quite unimpressive (imo at least). i left out the pvp henchie contest intentionally because (imo) it was an epic fail.

Oh, look everyone. More boring crap. How exciting!

*yawn* Too bad they don't want to actually add stuff that people care about. Thanks Anet for the thrilling new content and skill updates......oh....wait....

What kind of company is this? Small-time, run-by-family snack bar in a high-school?

Honestly if a game company tells me there's a delay because one guy in their team is sick. I'd highly questioned the company's professionalism and its ability to do ANYTHING productive.

But then again, this is Anet, a professionalism-free company. So I don't really expect much to begin with.

Then they should've ACCEPTED the situation and DEAL WITH IT professionally.

Announcing something they simply cannot do is just retarded. Period.

That, or stupid PR stunt.

as for people complaining about the speed or lack there of, I actually kinda like this. It is interesting to see this stuff unfolding rather than being slapped in there. Besides, I wouldnt be surprised if it was slapped in there that people would complain that they went through it too quick
Ran into two Shining Blades this morning in Kryta so had some company

But the above quote says it right. Someone will ALWAYS have a complaint.

Patience won't kill anyone lol well except for the instant gratifacation, keep me amused constantly crowd

The break out of the War in Kryta takes longer than break out of WWII [apologies if anyone feels offended]

I've been coming back from work day after day after day after day hoping that something has actually happened today. All I'm getting are those "News from the front line" which I got fed up with 2-3 weeks ago. This can go on and on for another 3-4 months and nobody can complain because the response will be "Well we've been working on it and we have a proof"
I'm not interested in running around Kryta for 1.5 hour every day just to check whether a new mob has been added somewhere. It's boring and it's a waste of time. They were interesting at the beggining but now it's just cheap tricks which I simply don't buy anymore
I was tricked by ANet. Again. Something was announced and now it takes ages to "put final touches to it". If they have had any deadlines in the past they must've broken majority of them. Why don't they just work on something and not say about it until it's done. A lot of dissapointment will be saved

I don't like the way GW2 campaign has been handled but that's me
It started with great pace in 3 days I got more info than in 3 years and then it suddenly stopped.

/edit
I forgot to mention the FAIL GW2 newsletter. I signed up with 2 email accounts and I never received any emails regarding the development. Despite the fact we had some movement around

I suggest we wait tomorrow , the date where the promised update is supposed to come ( according to wiki and other site , but since no news for 2 weeks i'm almost sure there won't be anything ) . We'll be able to complain then , when we'll see nothing new

Tomorrow is "supposed" to be the skill update. I really don't think there will be any content, though. Knowing Anet, there may not be any WiK content at all. It may all just be storyline, that they pumped out to get some publicity for GW2, which is exactly what it did.

Zzz. I still can't believe we've gotten no new content for the 5th year. I could have sworn they told us we would....somewhere. Maybe they counted the costumes as content?

Maybe they might sneak something in with the update... they seem to be doing that a lot of late (mention one thing in the update, add three extra things)
